Rain Barrels ($100.00)

A rain barrel collects and stores rainwater from your rooftop to be used later for things like lawn and garden watering and window and car washing.  Typically, water collected from you downspout ends up in the sewer system or river system. By collecting this natural resource you can provide soft water for your plants, reduce the demand for treated tap water, help decrease the burden of water treatment facilities and municipal drainage systems during storms and save money by lowering your monthly watering bill.

Only 1/4 inch of rainfall runoff from the average roof will completely fill one of our 60 gallon barrels. Collection of water from rooftop runoff can provide an ample supply of this free 'soft water' containing no chlorine, lime or calcium. Because it tends to have fewer sediments and dissolved salts than municipal water, rain water is ideal for a multitude of applications, including biodynamic and organic vegetable gardens, raised planter beds for botanicals, indoor tropicals like ferns and orchids, automobile washing, and cleaning household windows.

Diverting and using rainwater form you rooftop has several advantages:

  • reduces the volume of water flowing to the sewer treatment facility
  • lowers the percentage of roof top rainfall as a component of urban runoff
  • backup source of water during times of drought or between rain showers
  • helps to keep our creeks and beaches clean
  • naturally softened water - great for delicate houseplants, auto cleaning and window washing
  • Saves money by lowering your water bill
  • chlorine-free water helps maintain a healthy biotic community in the soil
  • educational tool for teaching residents about water conservation

All of our rain barrels are made from plastic recycled food grade barrels. These plastic barrels come into this country from Greece, ladybugSpain, Portugal, Italy and India so many have small scratches and scuffs from traveling many thousands of miles. Our rain barrels are available in black and brick red. They have screw on lids with mesh screens to keep mosquitos out. The lids can easily be removed for cleaning.
